Kitsch and I ate you
Restaurant

Κιτς και σ΄έφαγα

Olympou 89, Thessaloniki, PC 54631

Behind the playful name «Kitsch and Ate You» lies a charming bistro with an artistic aura and an authentic Epirus soul. Creative flavors, carefully selected ingredients, and two women who turn art and hospitality into an experience.

According to Wikipedia, the word «kitsch» is primarily used pejoratively to describe works of art or objects in general whose aesthetics are considered fake, affected, or cheap. Sometimes, it also indicates a lack of good taste. In the case, however, of the small bistro on Olympus Street, above the Roman Agora, with the charming name «Kitsch and I ate you,» the word «kitsch» functions simply as a pun.

Speaking more seriously about this small and charming restaurant, it's worth noting that it is the creation of two women. One, Lena, is the one who «produces» art, transforming raw ingredients into delicious creations. The second, Maria, is an art restorer and supports Lena. Both roles, after all, are directly connected through a shared relationship with art.

This interesting mix and match, the fusion of two artistic visions, has also translated into the space, creating an environment that surprises, that constantly draws your attention, and that you ultimately find charming, as it manages to transform a common and unremarkable ground floor of an apartment building into a space with character.

«Kitsch and I Ate You,» however, is not just aesthetics, it's also food. The roots of the menu lie far from Thessaloniki, in the homeland of chef Eleni Todoulou, Epirus. This is of particular importance at a time when the cost of running a restaurant and the public's reduced purchasing power make the path difficult for many businesses. Nevertheless, Maria and her ’partner in crime« dared, and it seems that food lovers, appreciating it as a cultural asset, supported them.

Regarding «what we'll eat today,» things are simple: «Kitsch and I ate you» offers authentic Greek cuisine with an Epirus character. Most products come from Epirus and are sourced, where possible, from small organic farmers. Everything that comes from Lena's hands to the table is interesting and noteworthy. Among them, I particularly recommend – and highlight – the grilled leeks, the lamb in its broth, full of flavor and character, as well as the sweetbreads. Of course, there are many other offerings, enough to satisfy the taste preferences of even a large group.

«Kitsch and I ate you» is a place with interesting food, an artistic vibe, and two creators that are truly worth talking to.
