«Mantemi» in Evosmos, now established for both its atmosphere and the flavors it offers. It is casual only in terms of its friendly and comfortable ambiance, as well as its particularly pleasant environment.
A visitor stepping foot in a city for the first time, or even one who has visited before, rarely has the knowledge to choose entertainment and dining venues from a wide range of quality options. This usually leaves them with two choices. One is to ask the reception of the hotel where they are staying, which, with very few exceptions, will give them the usual and rather uninspired information. The second, which many follow, is to almost randomly pick a restaurant in a busy spot or end up at one of the few «well-known» and supposedly safe restaurants downtown.
However, as happens in almost all cities, the best shops are often not found in Aristotelous Square, Nikis Avenue, or Ladadika, and perhaps even more so in Thessaloniki. Of course, there are some notable places there as well. The real «gems,» however, are usually found far from the central areas.
For Thessalonians, to some extent, this is known, although it doesn't mean that everyone has explored every corner of the city and can decide with their eyes closed where to go and which door to knock on to enjoy truly good food. But for visitors?;
At this point, the word «Mantemi» comes in, and more precisely, the restaurant of the same name. «Mantemi» already has five years of life behind it. It was born in Kordelio in 2021 and very quickly convinced its friends of good food that it is a «place to be,» gaining devoted and loyal customers. Thus, about three years later, it upgraded its headquarters «to be more urban» and moved to Evosmos, at 79 Maiandrou Street.
The full name of the restaurant is «MANTEMI – Casual Dining». Regarding the second component of the title, the word «casual» is mainly translated as «relaxed» or «informal/haphazard.» However, in the case of "Mantemi," "relaxed" is perfectly acceptable, as it accurately describes the character of the place: friendly, pleasant, and with an atmosphere that makes you want to be there. The latter interpretation of the word, "informal/haphazard," would be an injustice to the place, both in terms of its environment and the menu it offers.
Regarding the ambiance, we can confidently say that the welcoming space of the restaurant is characterized by a pleasant, contemporary urban atmosphere. It is bright, with modern features, and anything but sloppy. A complementary element that makes the space even more sought-after is the delightful courtyard-garden, invaluable for spring and summer evenings.
The visitor gets a similar impression when consulting the menu. "Lack of care" might be a word, but it doesn't fit the image or the overall philosophy of the establishment. This might all be known to the city's residents. However, for visitors or tourists, it doesn't mean much until they are there. Despite the restaurant specializing in meat, particularly quality cuts, the overall presentation of the menu is much more complex. In the appetizer section, the menu is rich, meaning that if a group wishes to spend their evening trying dishes and mezes, they can find almost anything their heart desires.
Similarly, if someone feels the need for something more cooked, it won't take much effort to find what suits them. Now, if someone were asking for a few ideas so as not to search the menu too much, we would first recommend the Pontian vareniki, with their incredible deliciousness. The same goes for the exceptional pereg-tiropita. Next, we would move on to the special mushroom risotto, while in terms of meat, we would suggest either the rib eye or the beef cheeks with sour trahana cream.
The ideas are many more, but as with all good menus, «everything flows,» as Heraclitus said. So we'll leave you to make your own choice when you find yourself at «Manteemi.» And you'll probably be there soon.
