In a region of natural paradise, with wild nature and a unique view of the sea and the area's mountains, Plakostroto is a tavern that perfectly fits the location. Greek cuisine, culinary knowledge, and a welcoming environment create a combination that is worth experiencing.
Syros is the island with the greatest urban tradition in all of the Cyclades. From the central square and the theater, to the classic architectural houses that catch the eye as you walk through the city streets, everything confirms it. The equally urban and aristocratic villages of the island, such as Delagrazia, complete the picture.
However, there's also the other side of the island to the north, an area with charming wild beauty, small mountain ranges, and above all, wonderful views. It's no coincidence that for the residents of Ermoupoli, it's a popular destination for weekends, both for the environment and for the culinary offerings it provides. Speaking of The Paved Path, we will meet in one of the region's truly small villages. San Michali is a small settlement with few inhabitants, as in most inhabited places in the region. Its name is reminiscent of the local and delicious San Michali cheese, which is produced in the area from cow's milk.
Plakostroto has been operating for over 25 years, since 2001. It has stood out in the culinary scene since 2016, when it was taken over by three gastronomy professionals from Syros: George and Petros Paleologos, and Litsa Markellou who is responsible for traditional cuisine. For anything related to grilled dishes, Giorgos Paleologos is in charge. The menu is curated by the distinguished chef Thanasis Stasinou.
Anchored in a unique setting with a rare view, both in the morning and in the late hours of the day as the sun sets, it combines all this scenic beauty with a warm interior space decorated with care. No matter what time of day you are in the space, you are sure to enjoy something beautiful.
The culinary offering at Plakostroto is purely Greek, with a slight French touch that nevertheless maintains its Greek identity. There is no precedent of a restaurant in Greece that declares the existence of a cheese bar on its menu, with the addition of “Greek.” It is worth appreciating. Otherwise, the offering is rich with several mezedes that facilitate sharing for a large group, as well as cooked dishes, with the rooster in wine sauce as the restaurant's pride. An important culinary highlight of the menu is the grilled dishes, with flawless management over the fire, which perfectly match the unique rustic environment where Plakostroto is located.
In an era dominated by modernity and when traditional Greek cuisine is under pressure from all sides, Plakostroto represents an interesting culinary offering with a Greek identity that is worth considering.
