Συρτάκι

L. Souniou 114, Kato Sounio, PO Box 19500

With its only drawback being its distance from the city center, Syrtaki is a place of enjoyment for both seafood lovers and friends of good food.

For Syrtaki, we won't call it a tavern, a restaurant, or a country club. We'll say it's a place for quality food that to this day is based on a phrase from its founder: «What I don't eat myself, I don't give to the customer.» This bold phrase – for the hospitality industry – after 60 years (the business has been operating since 1966), continues to be the needle of a compass that steadfastly points the way the kitchen should follow.

This street has three words: «quality, freshness, deliciousness.».

A twenty-minute walk from the Temple of Poseidon and ten minutes from the swimmer-friendly Kavaja beach, Syrtaki has it all: a lush green environment, sea views, and a pleasant indoor space for days when the weather doesn't permit outdoor dining. However, it's obvious that a dining establishment struggles to maintain the same principles that made it successful in its beginnings. Syrtaki, however, has managed. It remains in the hands of the same family today, 60 years later, with Sotiris Valli, a member of the third generation, continuing its operation with his parents, adhering to the same high standards of quality.

On this culinary journey, which you will experience seated at a table amidst greenery with a sea view, the protagonist is, of course, fish. A dinner or lunch at Syrtaki begins, as modern trends dictate, with fish that has not felt the «caress» of fire. Both the absolutely raw, unadorned sashimi and the more elaborately prepared ceviche, beyond their deliciousness, serve as evidence of the quality of the fish you will taste next, regardless of whether it has gone on the grill or in the pan.

Even if you desire something other than classic fish, you won't be disappointed. The menu combines classic Greek flavors with modern creations, drawing inspiration from Greek tradition and based on carefully selected seasonal ingredients. Original dishes like beet pesto, sardine dolma, and flavorful risotto create a pleasant dilemma as to what to choose first.

All of this, combined with decent service and a wine list that adequately complements your choices, makes Syrtaki a benchmark in the area. In conclusion, Syrtaki is a place of flavor with history and authenticity. It's not just a tavern, it's something bigger, and that's why it's worth visiting.
